What does PIME do?
The Provincial Institute for Environmental Education (Provinciaal Instituut voor Milieu Educatie) or PIME offers a broad range of educational activities for primary, secondary and higher education.
A guided excursion of the Kessel Moor (Kesselse Heide) is just one of the many activities organised by PIME.
Closer to nature
PIME asked TinQwise to come up with a more modern approach for familiarising secondary education students with the Kessel Moor. During the excursion the students will still be accompanied by a guide, but now they’ll also be required to actively participate and interact with the environment. Truly bringing them closer to nature.
Learning app Heide-eXPerts
For this TinQwise developed the app ‘Heide-eXPerts’ (Moor-eXPerts). At the beginning of the excursion, students receive a survival backpack including a tablet. The tablet’s GPS-location system guides the students through the various unique biotopes found in the Kessel Moor. Through interactive assignments, videos, sound bites, maps, a field guide, in-field exercises, ... students gradually learn more and more about the Kessel Moor.
Armed with new knowledge and experiences, students are equipped to complete the final research question at the end of the excursion in vlogging-style: how do they now feel about conservation efforts? And by doing that, successfully conclude the mission!
Back to class
Back at the assembly point, all completed questions, photos and recorded videos are sent through to the student and their teacher via email. That way the excursion report can be incorporated afterwards in further in-class training. The students themselves thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
