Most supermarket employees are between 16 and 20 years of age. They need to know and be able to apply all health, safety and hygiene regulations. This target audience, however, is not very eager to learn about these matters. How to motivate these youngsters?
TinQwise developed a learning solution based on the principles of gamification: combining facts and fun. The teenagers start with a quiz called 'the Safety Check' in which they have to - much like any store manager (role play) - move through the supermarket and instruct colleagues. Guided by the floor plan of the store the young students also get to watch video’s with real life situations.
The supermarket employees can play The Safety Check as often as they like. The questions of the quiz are randomized. It is like competing against yourself, which turns out to be a huge success with these gaming youngsters; A smart way to train great quantities of factual knowledge.
In this training hygiene regulations are regarded the game rules, which triggers the imagination of the youngsters. How they can secure health and safety of both their colleagues and their customers, and take care of each other, is explained in brief inspiring cases.
Gamification is not the same as a game, it is about adding game elements to the process of learning for motivational purposes. This learning method with a participation-and-reward system works well for people of all ages. It is about combining facts and fun, to make the process of learning appealing and easier. It is a firm belief of TinQwise that learning should always be a positive experience.
